Clashes between police and activists in Paris
Protesters clashed with French police ahead of the TotalEnergies meeting.
Local media reported clashes between police and protesters in Paris ahead of a TotalEnergies meeting on Friday.
According to French network TF1, a group of demonstrators gathered in front of the Salle Pleyel, where the energy corporation will have its general meeting, while protesters accusing the company of contributing to climate change chanted slogans such as "Total assassin," and "One, two, three degrees, we must thank Total."
One group was dispersed by police as they sat at the entrance, but this did not drive away other potesters as French police used tear gas to disperse them.

In a united statement issued in April, activist groups such as Alternatiba, Amis de la Terre, Attac, and Greenpeace stated that they would not let TotalEnergies' annual conference take place.
Last year, demonstrators blocked virtually all of the TotalEnergies group's shareholders from accessing the venue, in a similar fashion.
TotalEnergies is not the only energy provider being challenged by environmentalists, as activists disrupted Shell's annual meeting in London on Tuesday and BP's on April 27 with protests.
