CNN's Chris Cuomo Covered NY Mayor Scandal in Revealing Reports
Documents gathered by the New York attorney general's office expose Chris Cuomo's intimate relationship with covering up the Andrew Cuomo scandal.
A myriad of allegations of sexual harassment cornered New York governor Andrew Cuomo, leading US president Joe Biden to call on him to resign, and eventually, his resignation.
But journalism meets corruption, and Andrew's brother, Chris Cuomo, one of the most prominent CNN political talk show hosts, utilized his sources to guide the New York governor in which direction the scandal should swim. Chris unethically used his media sources to gather "intel" on the victims of sexual harassment, using that information to the benefit of his brother, the governor.
According to Rolling Stone, documents released on Monday by the New York attorney general's office expose Chris' intimate involvement in Andrew Cuomo's case.
Melissa DeRosa, Andrew's top aide, collaborated with him and Chris on how to polish the sexual harasser's media image. After The New York Times reported Andrew's undesired advancement on a girl at a wedding, Chris texted DeRosa, saying that he has a lead on the "wedding girl." The lead, "miraculously," was that the girl was lying about the encounter. Her name was Anna Rauch.
Within the same month, DeRosa texted Chris: “Rumor going around from politico 1-2 more ppl coming out tomorrow. Can u check your sources?” to which he responded, "On it."
A Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Ronan Farrow, at the request of DeRosa, had information gathered on his story regarding the victims of harassment.
The documents which were released on Monday provided assertions for Andrew on what to do. Chris was worried about how Andrew's team was dealing with the scandal and asserted that DeRosa trust the advice being given to her.
Furthermore, Chris provided DeRosa with a written statement; the aim was to refine Andrew's statements and assist him in facing the accusations. Among the lines in the statement was "I will not resign, I cannot resign."
A shield against scandal
In May, The Washington Post reported that Chris was on phone calls discussing how Andrew should deal with the harassment accusations and scandal. The concluding statement was for Chris to attribute the dissatisfaction of the public to 'cancel culture,' gaslighting the victims' plights.
In the documents which were released on Monday, it was revealed that Alec Baldwin, upon the request of Chris' friend, spoke against cancel culture in defense of not only Andrew Cuomo but also Woody Allen, who is accused of pedophilia.
The conflict of interest in this issue is salient; however, the corruption and meddling used in the scandal highly benefitted Chris Cumo in his career as a political commentator.
