Coalition combat forces tasks terminated in Ein Al-Asad base
A spokesman for the Office of the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces says Ein Al-Asad base in the Anbar governorate will be run by Iraq's security forces, as coalition advisers will provide logistical support.
The spokesman for the Office of the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces in Iraq, Major General Yahya Rasoul, confirmed Saturday the termination of the tasks of the coalition's combat forces at the Ein Al-Asad base in the Anbar governorate.
During the Iraqi Military Technical Committee's visit to the base "to follow up the implementation of the Iraqi agreement with the international coalition forces to completely withdraw the combat forces," Rasoul said that an Iraqi military commander will run the work of the advisors of the International Coalition at the base.
The Major General highlighted that "the work of the international coalition will be limited to advisers to provide logistical support, advice, and empowerment in the areas of training, armament, equipment, and intelligence exchange" to the Iraqi security forces.
A senior Iraqi security official in Anbar denied any plans to evacuate the Ein Al-Asad base and stressed that the base "is an essential anchor for air support, information analysis, and providing the Iraqi forces with necessary and important briefings in the war against ISIS remnants."
Earlier, US President Joe Biden mentioned that no US troops would be on combat missions in Iraq after December 31, 2021, as per the agreement between Iraq and the US in July.
