Coinciding with Haniyeh's funeral in Doha, Hamas calls for day of rage
Coinciding with the funeral of its political bureau chief, Ismail Haniyeh, who will be buried in Qatar, Hamas calls for mobilization and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad vows to continue in the footsteps of the martyrs.
The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, has called for a day of widespread anger and mobilization, today, Friday, in protest of the Israeli occupation's assassination of its political bureau chief, leader Ismail Haniyeh.
In its statement, Hamas called for "massive marches of anger from every mosque, denouncing the cowardly assassination, condemning the ongoing genocide against our people in the Gaza Strip, and defending our land, al-Quds, and the blessed al-Aqsa Mosque."
This call came after the movement conducted an absentee prayer [a prayer Muslims conduct when it is not possible to pray upon the body of the deceased] for the soul of the martyred leader was performed in all mosques, in loyalty to him, his message, and the blood of the martyrs.
After Friday prayers, Haniyeh is scheduled to be buried in Qatar.
Earlier on Thursday, massive crowds participated in Haniyeh's funeral in Tehran before his body was transferred to Doha.
On July 28, 2024, three days before his martyrdom, Haniyeh had called for August 3 to be a national and global day in support of Gaza and the Palestinian detainees, emphasizing "the importance and necessity of active national, Arab, Islamic, and global popular participation, and the continuity of all forms of demonstrations and marches after August 3, until the Zionist occupation is forced to stop its aggression and crimes against our people in the Gaza Strip and against our heroic prisoners in the Nazi prisons and camps."
On Thursday, Hamas and the Islamic Jihad affirmed that the treacherous assassination crimes against Resistance leaders, foremost among them the head of Hamas' political bureau and the commander in the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon, Fouad Shokor, would not weaken the Resistance.
The joint statement from Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad stressed that "the Resistance pledges to God first, then to its people and nation, to fulfill the duty of defending its land and protecting the holy sites, no matter the sacrifices."
The statement emphasized that Resistance is a legitimate right in confronting the occupation and that it will continue as long as the occupation remains until the Palestinian people achieve all their rights to liberation, return, and the establishment of an independent state on the entire Palestinian soil, with Jerusalem as its capital.
