Ukraine has launched missile strikes on Sevastopol that damaged the historical building of the Russian Black Sea Fleet headquarters, as one military personnel remains missing, the Russian Ministry of Defense clarified on Friday.

Russian air defenses destroyed five of the Ukrainian missiles, however, "as a result of the attack, the historic building of the Black Sea Fleet headquarters was damaged. According to the available information, one military was killed," the Ministry said earlier.

The Defense Ministry later clarified that the servicemember was not killed but was missing.

"One serviceman was not killed, but is missing," it said, updating its previous post on Telegram.

Taking precautionary measures

Authorities in the Russian city limited road traffic in the city center as a precautionary measure.

"The movement of personal and public transport to the city center is limited. We ask you not to leave in the direction of the center," the administration said on Telegram.

The city could still be the target of Ukrainian attacks, Sevastopol's Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev wrote on Telegram.

"Attention! Another attack is possible. Please do not go to the city center. Do not leave the buildings. All those who are near the fleet headquarters — at the sound of the siren, proceed to shelters. Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia are working on the spot. An airmobile group is ready. Backup equipment has been provided," Razvozhaev said on Telegram.

The official also said emergency personnel are diligently working to contain the fire that erupted in the aftermath of the missile strike on the building.

In the meantime, Sergey Aksyonov, Crimea's leader, also verified on Friday that Russian air defenses successfully intercepted and neutralized cruise missiles over the Russian peninsula.

"Air defense forces shot down cruise missiles over the territory of the Republic of Crimea. Stay calm and trust only official sources of information," he wrote on Telegram.

Kiev launches cyberattacks on Crimea

An advisor to the head of Crimea, Oleg Kryuchkov, confirmed on Friday an unprecedented cyberattack on the Peninsula's internet providers is happening as of now.

In a post on Telegram, Kryuchkov said, "There is an unprecedented cyberattack on Crimean internet providers. We are detecting internet outages on the peninsula. All services are working to eliminate the threat."

Trying every which way

This comes just nine days after Ukraine launched a total of ten cruise missiles toward the Sevastopol shipyard, resulting in damage to two ships that were undergoing repairs, as per Russia's Defense Ministry statement on Telegram, reportedly involving three unmanned boats.

"Tonight, the Ukrainian armed forces conducted a strike against the shipyard named after Ordzhonikidze in the city of Sevastopol using ten cruise missiles and attacked a group of ships of the Black Sea Fleet during the movement in the sea using drone boats," the statement said.

"Air defenses destroyed seven cruise missiles, and the Vasily Bykov patrol ship destroyed all drone boats. As a result of cruise missiles hitting the shipyard, two ships, which were in repair, were damaged," it added.
