The Syrian news agency SANA reported an explosion in the vicinity of the Al-Mezzeh area west of the capital Damascus, clarifying that the relevant authorities have begun investigating its nature and causes.
A SANA correspondent confirmed that the explosion was caused by an explosive device planted inside an old car parked in the area.
Meanwhile, the Syrian news channel Al-Ikhbariya reported that the explosion occurred near the Golden Hotel in Al-Mezzeh, noting that there were no immediate reports of casualties.
This comes amid a backdrop of rising tensions in Syria, as violence continues in different parts of Syria, risking destabilizing the country as it attempts to rebuild.
Violence in Syria escalates tensions
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) stated on August 13 that it had reportedly recorded the identities of 28 Syrian civilians, among them 12 women, who were allegedly summarily executed on-site by personnel affiliated with the defense and interior ministries amid the July Sweida massacre.
With this latest report, the total number of summary executions in Sweida since July 13 has risen to 429 individuals, including 38 women, 14 children, and elderly victims, among whom were 20 medical staff members from Sweida National Hospital who were reportedly gunned down by forces belonging to the Defense and Interior Ministries.
On August 12, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) alleged that factions affiliated with the interim Syrian government had engaged in repeated provocative maneuvers and committed direct breaches of the March 10 ceasefire agreement, with incidents reported across both Aleppo and Deir Ezzor governorates.
The SDF reported that these factions have carried out what they described as "suspicious movements" in the vicinity of Deir Hafer and nearby villages over recent days, stressing that their own forces have exercised restraint and refrained from retaliation.
