Diaz-Canel thanks Putin for aid amid Covid, US sanctions
Food, medicine, and oxygen concentrators, delivered from Russia to Cuba, played important roles in facing the peak of the Corona pandemic and defying US sanctions.
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermúdez had a telephone conversation Monday morning with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to a statement by the Cuban Presidency, the two leaders reviewed the "excellent" relations between the two countries, discussed the future development of bilateral cooperation in various fields, and exchanged views on various regional and international issues.

President Diaz-Canel thanked the Russian President for the humanitarian aid provided by Moscow to Havana in recent months, especially in food, medicine, and oxygen concentrators, which played important roles in facing the peak of the Corona pandemic, according to the Cuban Presidency.
It is noteworthy that last year, Russia announced that it had sent two planes of humanitarian aid to Cuba, in order to help it cope with the sharp rise in COVID-19 cases, as well as to defy the economic embargo imposed by Washington on Havana.
