Several people were killed and dozens injured after the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) shelled the city of al-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State in western Sudan, according to medical sources.
The Sudan Doctors Network, in a statement carried by Turkey's Anadolu Agency, reported that "RSF forces shelled a central market and the Awlad al-Reef neighborhood in al-Fashir, resulting in the killing of 24 people and the injury of 55 others, including five women."
The statement described the attack as "a heinous crime" that adds to "a series of war crimes and acts of genocide targeting unarmed civilians in al-Fasher for more than a year, amid a suffocating siege and a severe shortage of food, medicine, and essential services."
The organization called on the international community to "take urgent measures to halt the deliberate shelling and siege of the city by pressuring the leadership of the paramilitary group to stop the ongoing genocide and systematic starvation of unarmed civilians in al-Fasher."
Al-Fasher has been under siege since May, with local groups repeatedly accusing the RSF of shelling civilian areas despite international appeals to safeguard humanitarian corridors.
