DPRK transfers 250 missile launchers to S. Korean border
Tensions between the two countries have been rising within the last few months, with South Korea's anti-propaganda campaigns and the DPRK's launch of trash balloons
DPRK leader Kim Jong Un oversaw the delivery of 250 ballistic missile launchers to military units along the country's border with South Korea, describing the weapons as a "powerful treasured sword" to defend sovereignty amid rising tensions between the two nations, state media reported on Monday.
The transfer ceremony of the missile launchers was held in the country's capital Pyongyang on Sunday, with Kim presiding over the event, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said.
The DPRK's leader delivered a speech to the crowd at the ceremony, referring to the artillery as an “up-to-date tactical attack weapon” that he “personally designed” himself.
Tensions along the Korean Peninsula have significantly increased, marking the lowest points between the two nations in years with the DPRK ramping up weapon testing and launching garbage-filled balloons across the border. Meanwhile, South Korea continues its anti-Pyongyang propaganda campaigns along the border, conducting joint military drills with the United States.
Kim Jong Un calls South Korea an 'unchangeable enemy'
The Korean Central News Agency reported on Saturday that DPRK leader Kim Jong Un has called South Korea an "unchangeable enemy," condemning attempts by South Korean media to exaggerate the damage caused by flooding in the country over the week.
Earlier this week, Kim visited flood-stricken areas in the border city of Sinuiju and Uiju County in North Pyongan province.
He personally oversaw the rescue and evacuation of residents, directing efforts by rescue teams using helicopters and boats.
Over 4,200 people were rescued, and Kim has ordered that all possible assistance be provided to those affected.
Kim criticized South Korea's "rubbish media" for spreading false information about the number of casualties in the affected areas, which they claimed to be over 1,000-1,500, according to the news agency.
The DPRK leader remarked that the "enemy remains unchanged," condemning the "inveterate habits and despicable nature of the ROK scum," KCNA reported.
