Egypt calls for inclusive political process for Syria future
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry calls for the establishment of an inclusive political process in Syria in order to rebuild the nation and put it back on the map.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Tuesday urging the adoption of a "comprehensive political process in Syria" to preserve the country's unity and stability amid ongoing challenges.
The statement emphasized the critical juncture Syria is currently facing, calling for concerted efforts by all Syrians to initiate a Syrian-led and wholly national political process, free from external interference.
Moreover, it highlighted the need for inclusivity, aligned with UN Security Council Resolution 2254, to ensure all Syrians can participate in shaping their country's future and rebuilding its state institutions.
Egypt reaffirmed its commitment to engaging with Syrian counterparts and supporting the political process to fulfill the aspirations of the Syrian people. The statement underlined the importance of safeguarding Syria's sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and preparing for reconstruction while ensuring the voluntary, safe, and dignified return of refugees and displaced persons.
'Israel' exploiting Syria chaos
Egypt earlier today condemned the Israeli occupation of the demilitarized zone with Syria and adjacent areas in violation of the 1974 disengagement agreement.
The condemnation followed reports of Israeli forces occupying Mount Hermon on the Syrian side on Monday and advancing several kilometers into the demilitarized zone in the occupied Golan Heights. This move came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly ordered the seizure of the demilitarized zone and nearby areas.
Meanwhile, systematic Israeli airstrikes on Syria continue, targeting multiple military sites. Israeli forces have also advanced into the southern Damascus countryside near the Lebanese border.
According to Reuters, three security sources have said the Israeli military incursions have extended up to 25 kilometers southwest of Damascus.
Netanyahu says occupied Syrian Golan Heights Israeli 'for eternity'
The occupied Syrian Golan Heights are Israeli "for eternity," Netanyahu said in a speech on Monday after 60 years of confrontations with Syria under the leadership of now-ousted President Bashar al-Assad and his father, former President Hafez al-Assad.
Speaking in occupied al-Quds, Netanyahu thanked US President-elect Donald Trump for recognizing Israel's 1981 "annexation" of the territory during his first presidency and stated that "the Golan will be part of the State of Israel for eternity."
Netanyahu further underscored that Israeli occupation forces' control of the high ground "ensures our security and sovereignty."
"Israel's" actions are considered a violation of the 1974 "disengagement agreement" between "Israel" and Syria according to both the United Nations and all countries neighboring occupied Palestine.
