Egypt reiterates support for Lebanon, prioritizes ceasefire
Egypt's Foreign Minister affirms his country's readiness to meet Lebanon's humanitarian needs in light of the escalating Israeli aggression.
Egyptian Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, emphasized on Wednesday the necessity of ending the Israeli aggression on Lebanon as soon as possible and reaffirmed Egypt's support for Lebanon during these difficult times.
This statement followed his meeting with the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, during which they discussed the general situation in Lebanon and the region, the political and field developments, and the issue of mass displacement amid "Israel's" escalating aggression on Lebanon.
Abdelatty commended Berri's role and reiterated Egypt's solidarity and full support for Lebanon, stressing his country's readiness to meet Lebanon's needs for food, humanitarian supplies, and all forms of medical and health support in the face of the brutal and unjust Israeli aggression against Lebanese territory.
He further highlighted that several propositions must be considered to end the aggression on Lebanon, while simultaneously noting the importance of the diplomatic election of a Lebanese president to fill the presidency vacuum, far from external interferences or impositions. However, he affirmed that a presidential election should not be a condition for a possible ceasefire, stressing that both must proceed simultaneously.

The Foreign Minister also reaffirmed his country's full support for the Lebanese Army and all Lebanese state institutions, and further addressed several issues related to displacement, the importance of maintaining internal stability, and the "need for the full and non-selective implementation of UN Resolution 1701."
In response to a question regarding efforts to achieve a ceasefire, he explained that there were near-daily communications with the United States, several international and regional parties, and Arab countries. "The primary goal is the immediate cessation of this aggression and how to intensify pressures and all forms of influence on the Israeli government to stop its aggression, airstrikes, and daily incursions into southern Lebanon," he said.
It is worth noting that Hezbollah's Media Relations Officer, Mohammad Afif, recently denied that Lebanon received any specific proposals, amid a wave of media reports regarding international discussions for a ceasefire.
"Until now, Lebanon has received no updates, and we are still gauging the situation. What we hear is limited to the media and press," he confirmed.
However, he noted that "there is an escalating political atmosphere and significant activity between Moscow, Washington, Tehran, and other capitals, especially with Trump's arrival to the presidency."
