Egyptian, Russian FMs stress need for ceasefire in Gaza, Lebanon
The Egyptian and Russian ministers discussed bilateral issues, as well as regional developments, specifically relating to the Israeli war on Gaza and Lebanon.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on November 15 during the 15th Sir Bani Yas Forum in the United Arab Emirates, according to a statement from Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The discussions underscored the urgency of enhancing bilateral coordination, particularly following President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi's participation in the recent BRICS Summit in Kazan.
Both ministers reviewed several joint economic projects currently underway and exchanged perspectives on the evolving situation in Gaza and Lebanon amid ongoing Israeli aggression.
They emphasized the need for an immediate ceasefire and the provision of unconditional humanitarian aid to affected regions.
On November 13, during a visit to Beirut, Abdelatty emphasized the necessity of ending the Israeli aggression on Lebanon as soon as possible and reaffirmed Egypt's support for Lebanon during these difficult times.
This statement followed his meeting with the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, during which they discussed the general situation in Lebanon and the region, the political and field developments, and the issue of mass displacement amid "Israel's" escalating aggression on Lebanon.
Abdelatty commended Berri's role and reiterated Egypt's solidarity and full support for Lebanon, stressing his country's readiness to meet Lebanon's needs for food, humanitarian supplies, and all forms of medical and health support in the face of the brutal and unjust Israeli aggression against Lebanese territory.
In response to a question regarding efforts to achieve a ceasefire, he explained that there were near-daily communications with the United States, several international and regional parties, and Arab countries.
"The primary goal is the immediate cessation of this aggression and how to intensify pressures and all forms of influence on the Israeli government to stop its aggression, airstrikes, and daily incursions into southern Lebanon," he said.
