The Egyptian parliament's decision to rename the "Nasser Military Academy" to the "Military Academy for Postgraduate Studies" sparked a huge wave of anger in Egypt, especially among Nasserites who described the decision as "a disavowal of the legacy of the national leader."

Egyptian journalist and writer Gamal Fahmy spoke to Al Mayadeen, stressing that "removing the name of Gamal Abdel Nasser will not change anything," because Abdel Nasser remains in the hearts of the Egyptian people.

Fahmy believes that the request to remove Nasser's name from the military academy "was not from the armed forces," pointing out that removing the name of Abdel Nasser, who represents a great figure in the history of the Arab nation, is a wretched attempt.
