Erdogan, Qatari Emir urge global action to prevent regional crisis
A joint appeal was issued during the Emir's visit to Ankara amid the recent assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, have called for increased international efforts to prevent a regional crisis from escalating.
The joint appeal was made during the Emir's visit to Ankara amid the recent assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
During the meeting, Erdogan accused "Israel" of attempting to escalate regional tensions through its attacks on Palestinian territories and Lebanon, and stressed the need for the international community to take effective measures to halt Israeli aggressions.
He also mentioned that the assassination of Haniyeh demonstrates "Israel's" lack of intention to engage in a ceasefire, further destabilizing the region.
"President Erdogan said Israel is trying to increase tension in the region with its attacks on Palestinian territory and on Lebanon, and that the international community had to take effective measures to end the Israeli aggression, which has intensified in recent days," said a statement released by Erdogan's office.
"Israel has once more demonstrated it has no intention of (obtaining) a ceasefire," the statement read.

On Wednesday, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced that Turkey will join South Africa's genocide case against "Israel" at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
The Turkish government said that "Israel" has not complied with previous ICJ orders to refrain from actions that are classified under the Genocide Convention.
During a press conference in Cairo, Fidan highlighted the urgency of addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and called for international recognition of the alleged genocidal acts.
"Emboldened by the impunity it has received for its crimes, Israel is killing more and more innocent Palestinians every day," Fidan said on X. "The international community must do its part to stop the genocide and put the necessary pressure on Israel and its supporters. Turkey will make every effort on this path."
