Erdogan: We are Ready to Hold a Meeting with Taliban's Government
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan says his country is ready to hold a meeting with the government that will be formed by the "Taliban" movement in Afghanistan, and denies the Turkish opposition's accusations that there are large numbers of Afghan refugees in Turkey.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said today, Thursday, that Ankara is ready to hold a meeting with the government that will be formed by the "Taliban" movement in Afghanistan, in the wake of the movement's seizure of power in the country.
Erdogan added in statements after a governmental meeting that his country is ready to "meet with the government formed by the Taliban if necessary, and discuss our mutual agendas."
The Turkish president said that the Taliban has already taken control of all of Afghanistan, and the aim now is the country's stability and security.
The Turkish Anadolu Agency quoted Erdogan denying that there are 1.5 million illegal Afghan immigrants in Turkey as the opposition parties claim, adding that these are all pure lies.

Two days ago, Turkey described the messages sent by the "Taliban" movement since seizing power in Kabul as "positive", revealing that it held talks with the movement.
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu welcomed "the messages sent by Taliban movement so far, whether to foreigners and diplomatic missions or to the Afghan people," hoping "that this will be translated in their actions."
It is noteworthy that last July, the "Taliban" movement demanded that the Turkish forces, who are part of the NATO alliance, withdraw from Afghanistan. The movement also expressed its hope that the two countries will have a close and good relationship after forming a new Islamic government.
