Ethiopian Forces Capture Afar of Chifra
Ethiopian state media reported that the Ethiopian army retook the town of Chifra of Afar from the Tigray People's Liberation Front.
The Ethiopian armed forces have retaken Chifra, a town in the Afar region, state media reported Sunday.
Chifra is Addis Ababa's first major victory over the Tigray People's Liberation Front since Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed took to the frontlines alongside his soldiers, urging them to "destroy" the TPLF.
The TPLF had captured Chifra, a town situated on the borders between Afar and Amhara, after intense fighting with the Ethiopian armed forces last month.
"Ethiopian Defense Forces and Afar Special Forces have controlled Chifra," the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation said on its Twitter account.

The state-run broadcaster did not provide further details.
The town is to the west of Mille, a town the TPLF has been trying to capture for weeks over its geographic location to Ethiopia as the state's only link to Djibouti, which is highly important as the main regional port.
The TPLF had struggled to gain ground in the beginning, but they recaptured the majority of Tigray in July and made advances toward Amhara and Afar.
