EU says important to keep communication channels with Russia open
EU Foreign Affairs Spokesperson says the European Union considers it important to keep communication channels open with Russia to resolve the Ukrainian crisis.
The European Union's Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Peter Stano told a briefing on Monday that the EU considers it important to keep communication channels open with Russia.
"Isolation and sanctioning doesn't mean to keep someone incommunicado, for us always the dialogue is the priority and we always try to keep as long as possible the communication channels open," Stano said, adding that the communication channels serve to resolve the Ukrainian crisis.
The Spokesperson further said that the sanctions are "progressive", and that there can be increases and decreases in accordance with the situation on the ground.
Polish Prime Minister Mateusz said on Saturday that EU sanctions against Russia were not working, according to the Polish Chancellery, as he continued to press Brussels to take a tough stance against Moscow.
Morawiecki stated that "the sanctions we have imposed on Russia so far are not working. The proof is the ruble exchange rate, which is returning to the level it was at before the Russian aggression against Ukraine."
"This means that our actions did not work as expected by the leaders," Morawiecki added during a visit to the Polish town of Otwock in the East of the country, which houses Ukrainian refugees.
