French President Emmanuel Macron allegedly wants Iran to mediate in Ukraine's situation, according to an Iranian news outlet.

Mohammad Jamshidi, the director of the Iranian president's office for political affairs, stated in a tweet early Wednesday that one of Western Europe's prominent leaders had asked the Iranian President to assist in mediating the European war.

A top western European leader requested that President Raisi help mediate in the #War_in_Europe. Following a series of consultations, a peace initiative along with an important message was sent to Moscow through Foreign Minister @Amirabdolahian.

In conclusion to a series of meetings, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian delivered a peace offer to Moscow, along with an important message, Jamshidi continued.

Following Jamshidi's tweet, ISNA News Agency stated that the senior European official who asked for the intervention of Iran's President is France's President, Emmanuel Macron.

The major goal of his visit to Moscow is to try to resolve the Ukrainian situation in response to the Islamic Republic of Iran's request, he said, adding that certain Western parties want Tehran to take an active role in this respect.

Tehran is ready to act as a mediator in the issues between Kiev and Moscow, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said in May, as the war unfolded in Ukraine and after several bids made by third parties to mediate between the two countries.

"Iran supports any diplomatic efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict given its excellent ties with Russia. It is ready to mediate and help with the settlement of the crisis," the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement citing the Islamic Republic's Foreign Minister.
