Excl.: Fatah-Hamas cooperation talks have 'matured': Fatah official
Following high-level meeting between Fatah and Hamas, leaders from both parties have spoken to Al Mayadeen on the latest results of these talks.
Discussions between Fatah and Hamas, the two leading Palestinian political factions, on joint cooperation have "matured," a member of Fatah's Central Committee, Abbas Zaki, told Al Mayadeen.
Zaki spoke to Al Mayadeen following a series of high-level talks between Palestinian factions, the most recent of which occurred in Cairo.
The Fatah official said the cooperation between the two parties "cuts off the path for those who want to impose guardianship on the Palestinian people," referring to talks of other states influencing civilians or military affairs in the Gaza Strip.
Noting that all proposed solutions for the Gaza Strip remain "unclear," Zaki said, he stressed that Palestinian factions, including Fatah, Hamas, and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, remain a "single unit."
He stressed that Fatah is "committed" to its principles and that it would not accept that Palestinians in Gaza be "orphaned" of their political representation.
On partial solutions to the ongoing war on Gaza, Zaki said that Palestinians are faced with an "existential battle," adding that it is time for all factions to let go of any positions hurdling Palestinian unity.
"The time has run out for the American administration," Zaki remarked, stressing that the United States supports the expansionist Israeli project of "Greater Israel". He also stressed that Washington cannot be relied on.
On the situation in the occupied West Bank, Zaki stated that "settlers are preparing for a new round (of aggression) in the West Bank." Moreover, he pointed to the accuisition of 500 sniper rifles by authorities, which are meant to be handed out to illegal settlers in the occupied territory.
Zaki expressed a rooted stance on the ongoing aggression on Palestine, stating, "We are confident that the Resistance cannot be liquidated." He reflected on the resilience of the Palestinian people a year after October 7, 2023, asserting, "We are convinced that our destiny is to remain steadfast."
The Fatah official underlined that "no conspirator should think they can eliminate the Palestinian people through displacement."
He critiqued the leadership of the Israeli occupation, stating, "If the occupation had a conscious leadership, it would not have committed these crimes," which he believed have regionally isolated it.
Zaki warned that the ongoing Israeli aggression "will not spare any Arab country from an impending Israeli aggression if the fortress of Palestine falls."
Senrior Hamas official says agreement reached to organize "Palestinian house"
On Friday, senior Hamas official, Osama Hamdan, that a joint committee between Fatah and Hamas will manage public affairs in Gaza, describing the agreement as a step towards "organizing the Palestinian house."
Hamdan expressed Hamas' preference for a national unity government as part of any agreement with Fatah, noting that the Israeli regime seeks to fragment the Palestinian national project.
The Hamas official emphasized that "if forming a national unity government proves difficult, there are interests of our people that we must attend to by all available means."
