Palestinian Islamic Jihad official Sheikh Khader Adnan said Sunday he was subject to an assassination attempt in Nablus.

He told Al Mayadeen he knew the name of the person who tried to assassinate him, revealing that he was waiting for an official decision on the matter.

"The Nablus fugitive denied his connection to the assassination attempt and the video that was proof of his link to it," asserting that he is yet to hear any comment from the Palestinian National Security Forces about the crime.

"It was intended to take me off the Palestinian arena, and that only serves the Israeli occupation," he said, underlining the complicity of "Tel Aviv" in the crime that took place.

A system working on neutralizing leaders, icons

Palestinian Islamic Jihad said there had been a system working on neutralizing the figures and national symbols and leaders, as well as curbing their effect on the resistance and the fulfillment of the national duty in the West Bank.

"No one has the right to have full control of Nablus or any other regions, and we must prioritize preventing Israeli occupation soldiers and settlers from going into Nablus.

PIJ underscored that the bullets fired at Sheikh Khader Adnan "are Zionist", adding that the assassination attempt was a full-fledged crime, and the Israeli security forces and their supporters were behind it.

"Sheikh Khader Adnan is a symbol and a prominent national leader, and any attack on him comes in light of the Israeli occupation failing to assassinate and revenge him," PIJ added.

Palestinian Islamic Jihad called on all other Palestinian forces, factions, and human rights organizations to "raise their voice in the face of the chaos directed by the centers of power and authority, and they are the same ones coordinating with the Israeli occupation," clarifying that the chaos in the West Bank is intended, and its goal is to sow discord and create internal conflicts.

A gunman had opened fire on Sheikh Khader Adnan in Nablus, and he is a prominent PIJ figure and a liberated prisoner.
