Former CIA intel analyst says Ukraine defeat is inevitable
According to former CIA intelligence analyst Larry Johnson, the war in Ukraine is nearing an "endgame".
The war in Ukraine is nearing the final stage as the Ukrainian army will not be able to avoid defeat, former CIA intelligence analyst Larry Johnson said.
In a YouTube interview with Dialogue Works, Johnson explained that Ukraine was not being beaten in "only one spot," detailing that they do not have enough air power or manpower to face Russia.
With the impending second anniversary of the war, Ukrainian forces find themselves facing significant challenges along the frontlines. They are grappling with diminished and fatigued ranks, exacerbated by a shortage of artillery shells, which has been further complicated by the delay in receiving a substantial funding package from the United States.
He detailed how the Russian forces are "encircling Ukrainian troops who are in positions the only way out is to flee on foot."
Ukraine is suffering a "devastating defeat", Johnson explained, and with no US resources or manpower delivered to the front lines to help Ukraine defeat Russia, he believes the war is racing a potential "endgame".
On Saturday, Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, the Ukrainian military commander of the Tavria operational group, said that several Ukrainian troops had been captured during the process of withdrawal from their stronghold in Avdiivka.
"The withdrawal of personnel from Avdiivka took place in accordance with a plan designed with consideration of different scenarios and a possible change in the operational situation. And yet, at the final stage of the operation, under pressure from superior enemy forces, several Ukrainian service people were captured," Tarnavskyi said in a statement quoted by the Ukrainian newspaper Strana.
Signs of withdrawal initially surfaced last week, when US National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby stated that the situation in Avdiivka is critical and warned that the city may fall under Russian control due to Ukraine's ammo shortage.
He added that Ukrainian authorities are currently reaching out to international humanitarian organizations and mediator countries to ensure that the norms of international humanitarian law are upheld regarding the captured troops.
Also regarding the war, Elon Musk has recently agreed with an X post by David Sachs in which he stated that the Ukraine war was a "war of lies."
Sacks wrote a post on X in which he stated the war was built on lies and misinformation about "how it started, how it's going, and how it will end."
A WAR OF LIES
— David Sacks (@DavidSacks) February 17, 2024
The war in Ukraine is based on lies — lies about how it started, how it’s going, and how it will end.
We are told that Ukraine is winning when in fact it is losing. We are told that the war makes NATO stronger when in fact it is depleting it. We are told that…
Ukraine ammo shortage aiding Putin: Zelensky
At the Munich Security Conference on Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine's counteroffensive against Russian forces is impeded by insufficient supplies of long-range missiles and artillery shells. He noted that the Ukrainian army is in urgent need of additional weaponry.
This follows the withdrawal of troops from the city of Avdiivka, one of the key strongholds of Ukrainian forces in Donetsk, as Russian forces encircled the city from three directions.
"Ukrainians have proven that we can force Russia to retreat," he said, adding that "our actions are limited only by the sufficiency and length of the range of our strength... (the) Avdiivka situation proves this."
"Keeping Ukraine in artificial deficits of weapons, particularly in deficits of artillery and long-range capabilities, allows Putin to adapt to the current intensity of the war."
