Sputnik reported that a US military plane, Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey Tilt-Rotor Military Aircraft, crashed in Nordland, northern Norway late Friday with four people on board.
Local police announced that all four people died in the crash.
The Norwegian rescue center said the US military plane - which was carrying out a training mission - disappeared south of Bodo and its latest location was registered in Saltfjellet.
According to the center, helicopters and planes were sent on a search for the aircraft after a hazard warning signal was detected.
Norwegian authorities indicated that rescuers failed to reach the suspected site due to bad weather conditions.
In a statement to Sputnik, a US Marine Corps spokesperson said the US is aware of its aircraft having a mishap in Norway and is currently assessing the incident.
The spokesperson confirmed that the plane was taking part in a NATO military drill called Exercise Cold Response 2022 that was launched on March 14 in Norway.
The drill features 30,000 soldiers from 27 nations and is presented as a "defensive" exercise.
