Israeli media reported the death of an additional Israeli settler by Israeli occupation forces' "accidental" gunfire following the al-Quds shooting operation that took place on Thursday, raising the number of settlers killed to four, in addition to 12 injuries.

The media indicated that the initial investigation into the shooting revealed that Israeli soldiers, who killed the two Palestinians who carried out the operation, "mistakenly" thought that a settler was one of the shooters and opened fire on him.

The media mentioned that footage from the scene showed the soldiers shooting the settler while he was seen raising his hands and sitting on his knees in the street, adding at the time that his health condition was critical.

Earlier, the al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Hamas Resistance movement, assumed responsibility for the al-Quds operation. The Brigades mourned brothers Mourad, 38, and Ibrahim al-Nimr, 30, from Sur Baher, southern al-Quds, who carried out the operation.

"This heroic operation comes in response to the occupation's crimes against the children and women of Gaza and the occupied [West] Bank, as well as their desecration of al-Aqsa Mosque among other sanctities," a statement issued by the al-Qassam Brigades read.

"It is also a clear warning against the violations committed by [Israeli Police Minister Itamar] Ben Gvir and his mob against our prisoners in the occupation's prisons," the statement added.

Israeli media reported that the two Palestinians who conducted the operation in al-Quds arrived by car at the bus station and opened fire at the settlers there.
