A ceasefire agreement in Gaza between the Palestinian Resistance and the Israeli occupation came into effect on Sunday, January 19, 2025. However, the occupation continues to breach the agreement, preventing displaced residents from returning to northern Gaza and opening fire on civilians, resulting in fatalities and injuries.
Under the terms of the ceasefire agreement, the first phase of the deal—comprising three stages—is expected to last six weeks. It involves the release of 33 Israeli captives in exchange for approximately 1,900 Palestinian prisoners and detainees.
Earlier, on Sunday, the Gaza Government Media Office stated that "the Israeli occupation continues to evade its commitments under the ceasefire agreement" and "persists in procrastination, obstruction, and disruption of the agreed obligations."
The statement indicated that this clear evasion of the agreement "reflects the true nature of Israeli policies rooted in arrogance and a lack of credibility."
The Media Office described this behavior as "a blatant disregard for the efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people," holding the occupation fully accountable for "the severe humanitarian consequences resulting from its obstinacy and refusal to adhere to its commitments."
The statement called on mediators, as well as regional and international sponsors of the agreement, to apply immediate pressure on the occupation to compel it to respect its commitments in the face of actions that constitute a flagrant violation of international laws and norms.
On Sunday, they opened fire on Palestinians gathered near the Netzarim checkpoint as they attempted to return to northern Gaza.
Al-Awda Hospital reported the arrival of five injured individuals, including a child from the west of the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, as a result of Israeli gunfire.
Al Mayadeen’s correspondent in Gaza also reported that one Palestinian was killed near Martyrs’ Square in the center of Rafah, southern Gaza.
Israeli bulldozers were conducting demolitions around the central market in the al-Shaboura refugee camp in Rafah, our correspondent added.
