Dozens of German activists chained themselves to railway tracks at the Port of Hamburg to protest the government’s arms exports to "Israel" and denounce the occupation's crimes in Gaza. The demonstration brought freight transport to a standstill for several hours.
Around 40 protesters from the group Ende Gelände occupied the railway connecting the Eurogate and Burchardkai container terminals. For safety reasons, authorities cut the 15,000-volt overhead power lines during the action.
Press TV reported that Jule Fink, a spokesperson for the group, described the action as an act of civil disobedience and solidarity with Palestine.
“It is clear that the Israeli regime has been committing war crimes in Palestine for a long time. This is genocide, and the German government is actively complicit. Germany continues exporting weapons to 'Israel' through its ports. Why do the people of Hamburg allow their port to be used for arms shipments?” she said.
The protesters demanded an immediate halt to arms sales to "Israel", holding Germany accountable for enabling the regime’s aggression against Gaza.

Germany’s arms exports to 'Israel' face growing scrutiny
Germany approved €326.5 million ($363.5 million) in arms exports to "Israel" in 2023, nearly ten times more than the previous year, according to the Economy Ministry, which oversees licensing.
Approvals declined in 2024. Between January and August 21, only €14.5 million ($16.1 million) in exports were approved. Of that, just €32,449 ($36,016) fell under the weapons of war category.
Despite the reduction, activists argue that any military support to "Israel" amid its ongoing assault on Gaza makes the German state complicit in war crimes.

According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, more than 69,176 Palestinians have been killed since October 7, 2023. The Israeli genocide has displaced the majority of the Strip’s 2.2 million residents and led to a widespread hunger crisis.
