German Defense Minister marks first visit to Cyprus, meets counterpart
German Defense Minister pays her first official visit to Cyprus to meet her Cypriotic counterpart and discuss the situation in Ukraine and measures to increase military cooperation
According to Cypriot Press and Information Office, the German Minister of Defense Christine Lambrecht landed in Cyprus on Sunday to meet her counterpart Cypriot Defense Minister Charalambos Petrides.
The official visit marks a first for the German Defense Minister to Cyprus, where both parties will discuss Ukraine and the means to bolster defense cooperation.

"The ministers discussed issues related to the defense sector, analyzed in detail the prospects for deepening our defense cooperation, and exchanged views on current issues of European and regional security, with particular attention to the situation in Ukraine and the Eastern Mediterranean," the statement said.

The brief about the Defense Minister's meeting added that Petrides informed Lambrecht about Turkey's new regional policies and illegal activities in addition to the instrumentalization of migration, and expressed his country's full support to the German military that has been on a mission in Cyprus under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) SINCE 2006 and is in charge of the maritime surveillance within the force.
