Ghannouchi: Tunisia is returning to tyranny
The head of the Ennahda Movement, Rached Ghannouchi, says that President Kais Saied's actions represent a return to tyranny.
The head of the Ennahda Movement Rached Ghannouchi considered that President Kais Saied's actions are a restoration of failed experiences, adding that the country is moving toward a return to tyranny and exclusion.
Ghannouchi said the country is spiraling toward tyranny and the mentality of eliminating the other still prevails.
According to him, exclusion has already been tried, so why does President Saied want to "repeat failed trials," adding that the Arab and the rest of the world "tried dictatorship, where did it lead to?"
Ghannouchi described that the President wants a Tunisia without parties involved amid the prevalence of a president's vote that "rules over everything."
Tunisia's President Kais Saied has recently said the Parliament will remain suspended until elections take place in December 2022, declaring that a referendum on constitutional reforms will be held in July.
It is noteworthy that in July, Tunisia witnessed significant political developments, which began with protests stimulated by a political crisis between the government, the President, and Parliament. The crisis ended with decisions announced by the Tunisian President after meeting with military and security leaders.
The decisions included dismissing the Prime Minister and freezing the Parliament's work, followed by lifting the immunity of all its members. Consequently, the head of state represented by the presidency assumed public prosecution and the executive authority.
