Tunisia: Ennahda Demands End of Exceptional Measures
The Tunisian Ennahda movement demands to lift the parliament freeze.
On Thursday, the Tunisian Ennahda movement called for a hasty ending to the exceptional measures taken by President Saied and to lift the freezing of parliament.
In a statement that the executive office had released following a regular meeting, the movement called for the assignment of someone capable of forming a legitimate government in order to tackle harsh social and economic conditions.
Ennahda considered that the only effective solution to end the complex crisis is a comprehensive national dialogue and the dedication of the principle of participation in building a new scene that achieves the desired political stability.
The movement described the constitution of 2014 to be a fruit of national dialogue that raised Tunisia's status and led to it winning the Noble peace prize in 2015.
Curtailing public and personal freedoms were refused by the movement, as well as military trials for civilians. Also refused were placement under house arrest and infringement on freedom of movement without judicial permission.
Saied: Tunisia would not accept any foreign interference.
A few days ago, Tunisian President Kais Saied said that the government would be formed as soon as possible, without specifying a date. In another statement, he announced that Tunisia would not accept any foreign interference.
It is noteworthy that in July, Tunisia witnessed significant political developments, which began with protests stimulated by a political crisis between the government, the president, and parliament. The crisis ended with decisions announced by the Tunisian President after meeting with military and security leaders.
The decisions included dismissing the prime minister, freezing the parliament's work, lifting the immunity of all its members. Consequently, the head of state represented by the presidency assumed public prosecution and the executive authority.
