Golani Brigade Chief of Staff injured in S.Lebanon seeks resignation
After smuggling an Israeli researcher into south Lebanon and getting caught in a Hezbollah ambush, Golani Brigade Colonel Yoav Yarom has asked to be dismissed from his position.
The Golani Brigade's Chief of Staff, Yoav Yarom, has requested to resign from his position after sustaining injuries in south Lebanon battles with Hezbollah, and following an incident during which an Israeli researcher and another soldier were killed in a Lebanese village.
Last week, Yarom granted Israeli researcher Zeev Erlich, 71, permission to tour Lebanese border villages with the Israeli occupation forces without following protocol or attaining proper approval.
After examining an archeological site, the shrine of Prophet Shamoun al-Safa, in a southern Lebanese village that was presumed rid of Hezbollah fighters, the Israeli grouping was caught in an ambush executed by the Islamic Resistance.
Under the "permitted to publish" clause, the Israeli military acknowledged that during the tour, Yarom was wounded, while a company commander of the Golani Brigade's 13th battalion was seriously injured. Another Israeli soldier, alongside Erlich, was killed.
Erlich's entry into southern Lebanon had not been authorized by the Israeli military command and the wounded senior officer was under investigation for accompanying the researcher into the site.
Although the investigation has not concluded, Yarom took responsibility for Erlich's killing in a letter addressed to the commander of the Golani Brigade, asking to resign.
