Griffith calls Rafah 'worse nightmare than was predicted'
The UN aid chief says if allegations that the United States' Gaza pier was used in "Israel's" Rafah military operation were true, "they are very concerning."
The situation in Gaza's Rafah had become a "worse nightmare than was predicted," UN relief head Martin Griffith stated during the "Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza" conference, held in Jordan, adding that if the claims that the US pier was used to help in "Israel's" Rafah assault are proven true, then this would be "very concerning".
This comes as two Israeli intelligence officials informed The New York Times that US military personnel stationed in "Israel" supplied some of the intelligence for Saturday's attack on the Nuseirat refugee camp, which resulted in the killing of 274 Palestinians, including children. During this operation, four captives were retrieved.
On their part, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi urged the Israeli occupation to comply with a United Nations Security Council decision calling for an end to the war on Gaza.
Participants in the "Urgent Humanitarian Response for Gaza" conference, held in Jordan, called for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and an end to the genocidal massacres being committed by the Israeli occupation against Palestinian civilians.
In his speech at the conference, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said it is time to stop the suffering of our people in Gaza, which has been ongoing for eight months, as well as the hardships in the occupied West Bank and al-Quds.
In a joint press conference in Jordan, Safadi warned that if "Israel" failed to comply with the decision, the legitimacy of international law would be jeopardized.
"As long as Israel continues its aggression, it will become more of a pariah state," Safadi warned.
On his part, Shoukry expressed that the Security Council's resolution was "obligatory and should be respected."
The Jordanian foreign minister stated that the conference recommended the opening of border crossings in Gaza, citing Israeli impediments as a "violation of international law."
This comes after the United Nations Security Council on Monday adopted a resolution regarding the Gaza ceasefire proposal put forth by US President Joe Biden.
The resolution, drafted by the United States, received overwhelming support, with 14 members voting in favor and Russia abstaining.
Hamas responds to UNSC proposal
According to Hamas official Osama Hamdan, Hamas has delivered its response to the mediators regarding the ceasefire proposal.
Hamdan told Al Mayadeen that the response is a maintained commitment to a ceasefire and [complete] withdrawal from Gaza. He added that a few remarks were presented to the mediators regarding the Israeli proposal.
There are loopholes in the UN resolution, he explained, adding that the main focus is to set a zero hour for a ceasefire.
