The fighters of the al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, are still conducting precise and well-organized attacks across different combat areas, using field intelligence to guide their operations even under heavy military pressure, Israeli security sources told the Walla website.
The security sources said Hamas fighters rely on intelligence information to carry out repeated, organized operations that include sniper attacks, small-arms fire against Israeli soldiers, anti-tank missile and mortar launches, as well as remote detonations of explosive devices targeting Israeli military vehicles.
According to Israeli security assessments, Hamas has successfully appointed new field commanders and activated what it calls a "military guerrilla" network, with these units receiving instructions from the central leadership in Gaza City and central camps before distributing orders to combat units deployed in the field.
A senior reserve officer warned that the rising temperatures and humidity in the Gaza Strip are negatively impacting soldiers' performance and reducing their operational alertness, giving what he called "saboteurs" greater opportunities to launch successful attacks.
Earlier, Israeli newspaper Maariv acknowledged that the fundamental change "Israel" had hoped to achieve through its "Operation Chariots of Gideon" in Gaza remains "elusive".
In the same context, the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that Hamas "has not been broken," although Israeli officials repeatedly claim that the group is on the verge of collapse, facing imminent defeat or even surrender. Yedioth Ahronoth highlighted that reality contradicts these assessments because Hamas "continues rebuilding its capabilities in every area where the army is not operating."
This comes as the Palestinian Resistance continues to inflict heavy casualties upon Israeli occupation forces in sophisticated ambushes carried out in the harshest conditions possible.
Ambush in Gaza kills 5, wounds 14 IOF soldiers
For instance, on the evening of July 7, Palestinian Resistance fighters executed a targeted ambush against Israeli occupation forces in northern Gaza, with Israeli media sources indicating that the attack resulted in the deaths of at least five Israeli soldiers while leaving 14 others wounded, including several in critical condition.
Some of the killed soldiers were burned to death in the operation, which mirrored a similar ambush on June 24, when Palestinian Resistance fighters targeted an armored combat engineering unit, resulting in the death of seven Israeli troops.
The ambush occurred in Beit Hanoun, a town in northern Gaza that has faced relentless Israeli military assaults since October 7, 2023, according to reports.
During the previous assault, fighters from al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, reportedly employed an explosively formed penetrator (EFP) device, hurling it into the hatch of a Puma armored personnel carrier (APC).
On Tuesday, the Israeli military command confirmed that five of its soldiers, including two officers, had been killed in an attack it described as a roadside bombing, while 14 others sustained injuries, with two reported to be in serious condition.
