A senior Hamas official has called on the Trump administration to pressure "Israel" for proof of its claims that the group violated a recent ceasefire agreement, accusing Tel Aviv of fabricating pretexts to resume hostilities.
Izzat al-Rishq, a member of Hamas' political bureau, issued a statement on Saturday in response to Israeli allegations that Hamas had sent an armed militant across a designated security line. Al-Rishq demanded that the US, which is acting as the primary mediator, force "Israel" to reveal the identity of the alleged fighter.
“The Israeli occupation is inventing excuses to abandon the agreement and return to its war of annihilation,” al-Rishq said, asserting that it is "Israel" that is “systematically and daily” violating the truce.
Al-Rishq also categorically denied an Israeli claim that Hamas had informed the US Middle East Envoy that the deal was void and stressed the urgent need for the US to “compel Israel to implement the agreement fully.”
The comments were a direct rebuttal to claims by the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which stated that “Hamas is constantly breaching the ceasefire” and had “dispatched a militant to attack Israeli forces inside the Yellow Line zone.”
'Israel' kills 22 people in dangerous escalation
Meanwhile, "Israel" escalated its attacks on the Gaza Strip earlier on November 22, killing dozens of Palestinians in airstrikes across the Strip.
The bombardment was widespread, hitting targets from Gaza City in the north to the central refugee camps. In western Gaza City, a vehicle was struck near the al-Abbas intersection, killing five people. Shortly after, an airstrike on a residential apartment in the al-Nasr neighborhood killed four more and wounded several others.
The assault continued further south. A house west of Deir al-Balah was hit, killing three people. The al-Nuseirat refugee camp was particularly hard-hit, with one strike on the Abou Ammouneh family home killing three and another on the Abou Shawish family home claiming seven lives.
