Hanzala Center: Khalida Jarrar faces 'slow death' in 'grave-like cell'
The Hanzala Center for Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners has stated that Khalida Jarrar, the Palestinian activist, is enduring a policy of "slow death" due to her confinement in harsh conditions.
The Hanzala Center for Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners reported that Khalida Jarrar, a prominent activist and member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), has endured 93 days of harsh solitary confinement.
The center described Jarrar's ongoing imprisonment as part of a broader campaign of repression and abuse, marking her treatment as a clear example of "Israel's slow death" policy against Palestinian political prisoners. Despite the difficult conditions, Jarrar remains steadfast and resolute in her resistance, as per the center.
It has also condemned the harsh conditions faced by Jarrar, revealing that the female Palestinian activist is confined in an overcrowded, poorly ventilated cell, deprived of basic necessities such as water and light. The facility, as per the center, is described as resembling a "grave", where Jarrar is forced to lie next to the door in order to access the limited oxygen available.
The center appealed for urgent intervention from international organizations and human rights groups to safeguard Jarrar's life and the lives of all Palestinian detainees. It also urged the international community to take immediate action to halt the ongoing violations within Israeli prisons.
Furthermore, it called on Palestinians to intensify their efforts in supporting Palestinian detainees through solidarity actions at all levels.
Who is Khalida Jarrar?
On December 26, 2023, the Israeli occupation forces carried out a widespread detention campaign across the West Bank, detaining journalist Hamad Taqatqa and leading figure of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Khalida Jarrar.
Jarrar is the most prominent leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the second-largest faction of the Palestine Liberation Organization, and was, in the past, elected as a member of the former Palestinian Legislative Council.
"Israel" released Khalida Jarrar in September 2021, after two years of detention, and charged her with belonging to the liberation movement, the PFLP, which has been dubbed a "terrorist organization" by the Israeli occupation.
