Harris challenges Trump to CNN debate in October
Kamala Harris' campaign chair Jen O'Malley Dillon says Harris is "ready for another opportunity" to debate with Trump.
US presidential candidate and Vice President Kamala Harris challenged Donald Trump on Saturday to participate in another debate ahead of the US presidential election. Her team revealed that she has accepted CNN's invitation to host the event on October 23.
Her campaign chair Jen O'Malley Dillon announced that Harris was "ready for another opportunity" to debate with Trump, adding that "the American people deserve another opportunity to see Vice President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump debate before they cast their ballots."
Trump has already dismissed the prospect of confronting Harris again after many analysts saw Harris as the winner of the previous debate, which took place on September 10.
Joe Biden's bad debate performance against Trump in June, during which the President struggled to finish several of his sentences, sparked questions about his age and increased pressure on the 81-year-old to withdraw from the race.
Saturday's news came as three states—Virginia, Minnesota, and South Dakota—had already begun early voting in a tight contest.
On the campaign trail on Friday, Harris called Trump and his party "hypocrites" on abortion, blaming Trump for an abortion restriction in the battleground state of Georgia that she said killed two women.
Trump regularly boasted on the campaign trail that his three Supreme Court nominees opened the path for the repeal of the national right to abortion in 2022, leaving the matter to state governments.
At least 20 states have since enacted full or partial restrictions, with Georgia prohibiting most abortions after six weeks of pregnancy.
Trump appeals for Jewish votes or 'Israel' will cease to exist
At an event in Washington organized by the Israeli American Council focused on combating antisemitism, Trump pointed out that if he were to lose the upcoming presidential election in November, "the Jewish people would have a lot to do with the loss."
Trump questioned the rationale behind Jewish voters supporting Vice President Kamala Harris, stating, "Any Jewish person who votes for her should have their head examined."
He cited unspecified polling that placed his support at 40% among Jewish voters.
"That means you’ve got 60% voted for somebody that hates Israel. And I say it – it’s going to happen – it’s only because of the Democrat hold or curse on you. You can’t let this happen," the former President added.
He further warned that if he is not re-elected, "a lot of bad things will happen," including that "Israel" "will be wiped off the face of the earth" and "will cease to exist" within two or three years.
Trump criticized Harris for the Biden administration's handling of the war on Gaza and condemned what he called "antisemitic protests" on college campuses, referring to student protests in support of the Palestinian people.
"Kamala Harris has done absolutely nothing. She has not lifted a single finger to protect you or to protect your children," he said, adding, "I’m the one that’s protecting you. These are the people who are going destroy you and you have 60% of Jewish people essentially voting for that."
The former President also outlined plans to deport "foreign Jihad sympathizers and Hamas supporters" and vowed to reinstate his previous travel ban, which restricted entry into the US from several Muslim-majority nations.
