Implications of Israeli ground invasion unprecedented, Erdogan warns
Turkish President Recep Erdogan reiterates Turkiye's support for Lebanon amid threats of an Israeli ground invasion of Lebanese territories.
The implications of a ground invasion into Lebanon "will not resemble the occupation's previous operations," Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned, affirming that "Israel will be stopped sooner or later, no matter what it does."
In a speech during the opening of the 28th legislative session of the Turkish Parliament on Tuesday, Erdogan declared that Turkiye "will stand by Lebanon, by all means, after Israel launched airstrikes on Lebanon," as part of its ground invasion.
He added that Ankara will not abandon Lebanon during these difficult times and strongly supports its people, further condemning the Israeli ground invasion and urging the United Nations and other international forums to "stop Israel without wasting more time."
He also emphasized that the occupation is committing genocide in the Gaza Strip, terrorist attacks in Lebanon, and provoking countries "to drag the region into its inferno," warning that "Israel, operating from the delusion of the promised land, has Turkish territory in its sights after Palestine and Lebanon."
The Turkish president stressed that the occupation's aggression includes Turkiye as well, asserting that "we must stand against Israeli terrorism by all available means, for the sake of our homeland, our people, and our independence."
He added, in the same context, "We are not dealing with a state that adheres to laws, but rather with a herd of killers who thrive on blood and occupation."
Erdogan urges UNGA to use force amid ongoing Israeli war on Gaza
Earlier today, Erdogan called on the UN General Assembly to promptly advocate for the use of force against "Israel" in the Gaza Strip amid the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Palestinian enclave, referencing the 1950 Uniting for Peace Resolution.
The resolution, adopted in November 1950, allows the General Assembly to issue recommendations for collective measures, including the potential use of armed force, when the Security Council is unable to act due to a lack of consensus among its five permanent members.
"A handful of radical Zionists, blinded by blood and hatred, are setting the region and the whole world on fire. We will never consent to this cruelty and barbarism," Erdogan indicated, following a Cabinet meeting in Ankara on Monday, about the continued Israeli aggression on Gaza, the occupied West Bank, and Lebanon.
Since September 23, Israeli occupation forces have launched a massive aggression on Lebanon, conducting extensive airstrikes across the country, especially its South and East, as well as the Southern Suburb of the capital Beirut, where Hezbollah Secretary-General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah was assassinated.
