In a first in about two decades, Cuban President arrives in Iran
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel arrives in Iran leading a high-level political and economic delegation.
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel arrived on Sunday evening at Mehrabad Airport in the Iranian capital, Tehran, where he was received by the Iranian Health Minister and the head of the joint committee for cooperation between Iran and Cuba.
At the invitation of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, the Cuban President arrived in Tehran leading a high-level political and economic delegation, marking 22 years since the last visit by the late President Fidel Castro.
Headed by the Iranian President, the official reception ceremony for Diaz-Canel is scheduled to take place on Monday morning at the Sa'dabad Historical Cultural Complex adjacent to the Iranian presidential headquarters.
Following the official reception ceremony, there will be a special meeting between the two presidents and a joint meeting of high-level delegations, along with a signing ceremony for cooperation documents and memoranda. Subsequently, Raisi and Diaz-Canel will hold a joint press conference to review the outcomes and achievements of their bilateral consultations.
In addition, Diaz-Canel will hold meetings with several high-ranking Iranian officials and will also visit the exhibition showcasing the technological capabilities and latest achievements of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as the Pasteur Institute, which collaborates with Cuba in the fields of medicine and pharmacy.
This visit marks the first by a Cuban President to Iran since the June 1991 visit by the late Fidel Castro.
It is noteworthy that in June of this year, Raisi visited Havana during a regional tour in Latin America, at an official invitation from his Cuban counterpart. During the visit, six documents and memoranda of understanding were signed by senior officials from both countries for cooperation in multiple realms.
