The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced on Sunday the killing of a young Palestinian man and the injury of two others, one of whom is in critical condition, following an attack by Israeli occupation forces near the separation wall in the town of Adh Dhahiriya, south of the occupied al-Khalil Governorate.
Ali Ismail Taloul, 30, a resident of Adh Dhahiriya, was shot and killed on Saturday when occupation forces opened fire on a group of Palestinians near the wall. Two others, from the nearby town of Idhna, were also wounded. The incident was confirmed by security, medical, and local sources speaking to the Palestinian WAFA news agency.
The area near the wall has long been a flashpoint for violence, with Israeli forces routinely targeting Palestinians suspected of attempting to cross or approach the barrier.
Taloul's martyrdom came amid a broader wave of Israeli escalation across the occupied West Bank. On the same day, occupation forces detained eight Palestinian youths from various areas of occupied al-Khalil. The detainees were reportedly taken to undisclosed locations for interrogation.
Meanwhile, settler violence continued unchecked in other parts of the West Bank. In the northeastern outskirts of Ramallah, illegal settlers uprooted more than 100 olive saplings, according to local reports. The destruction of olive trees, a vital source of livelihood for many Palestinian families, has been a repeated tactic by settlers to displace Palestinian landowners and farmers.
The events come amid rising tensions in the occupied West Bank, where both occupation forces and settlers have intensified attacks against Palestinians. Human rights groups and Palestinian officials have repeatedly condemned these practices as part of a broader strategy to entrench occupation and expand settlement activity.
The latest killing and wave of detentions further underscore the daily dangers faced by Palestinians under occupation, particularly in flashpoint areas such as occupied al-Khalil and Ramallah, where military raids and settler incursions are frequent.
Continuous raids in the West Bank
On Friday, the first day of Eid al-Adha, tensions flared across the occupied West Bank and al-Quds as Israeli occupation forces conducted large-scale raids and arrests. The operations were accompanied by demolitions and violent confrontations in multiple locations.
In Jenin, the Jenin Brigade of the al-Quds Brigades stated that its fighters from the Yamoun Company engaged Israeli forces in the al-Masara area, detonating a pre-planted explosive device along the military vehicles' route while also showering the raiding troops with gunfire.
In Nablus, Israeli forces raided the town of Beit Furik, east of the city, triggering violent confrontations with Palestinian youths, while military vehicles pushed into the town of Beita and surrounded the Jabal Sbeih area amid heavy gunfire.
In the same area, Israeli forces detained five Palestinian youths at the Sara checkpoint, west of Nablus, during search operations and provocations, while simultaneously ramping up their military presence across the western part of the city.
