On Wednesday evening, Palestinian Resistance fighters targeted the "Dotan" checkpoint, southwest of Jenin, in the north of the occupied West Bank, and withdrew from the scene safely.

In the same context, Israeli news website Haaretz reported that "As of earlier this week, 81 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank in 2022, making it the deadliest year since 2015 – in which 99 were killed."

According to the website, 78 out of the 81 Palestinians have been martyred by Israeli occupation forces and three by Israeli settlers.

Haaretz highlighted that about 31 Palestinians were martyred in the Jenin region in the past year, where Israeli occupation forces have been conducting nightly raids.

Cairo: Situation in West Bank could "spiral out of control"

In the same context, Israeli public broadcaster KAN said on Sunday that Egyptian officials warned the Israeli occupation against carrying out "military operations" in the occupied West Bank, as it could lead to an "explosion" in the situation there.

"In Egypt, they have been worried about an escalation in the West Bank over the past few days," KAN reported.

"Egyptian officials warned Israel that the situation could spiral out of control, and they criticized Tel Aviv for its action," the Israeli channel added.

"The Egyptian officials also warned that if the situation continues as is in the West Bank, Israel will face chaos in the Palestinian territories," the Israeli broadcaster said.

Last week, KAN political affairs commentator Gilly Cohen revealed that the Israeli occupation forces were "very concerned" about the growing frustration and volatile situation within Palestinian cities.

According to Cohen, the security leadership, from the army chiefs, through the head of Military Intelligence, to the head of the Shin Bet, have expressed extreme concern over the situation that is potentially explosive.

Haaretz also reported that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi asked Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid to rein in the tensions in the West Bank to prevent another confrontation from happening with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ).

Quoting a source familiar with the meetings between senior Israeli officials and the Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Barbara Leaf, Israeli media reported that the US is highly concerned over the situation in the West Bank and fears a possible escalation.

The source stated that Leaf expressed her fear of a deteriorating security situation coupled with a possible escalation in the occupied West Bank. She believes that the continuation of such dynamics in the West Bank will lead to deterioration at the security level.
