IOF officers dismissed, punished over Hezbollah arms explosion at base
Following the explosion of weapons and the subsequent injury of 10 soldiers, Halevi dismissed and disciplined Israeli army officers.
The Chief of Staff of the Israeli occupation army, Herzi Halevi, penalized officers following the incident of a weapons explosion at the Bahalatz base, which resulted in the injury of 10 soldiers.
In detail, ten Israeli soldiers were wounded in an accidental blast at a training base in southern occupied Palestine on January 16, the military announced at the time.
The incident occurred at the Combat Engineering Corps’ training base north of Eilat, known as Bahalatz.
Halevi punished officers for their failure to adhere to safety measures following the explosion of Hezbollah weapons at the base in al-Araba.
Israeli media confirmed that Halevi decided to dismiss the officers involved in the incident, in addition to punishing two senior combat engineering officers, suspending them from promotion for two years and reprimanding them.
Israeli media indicated that the two officers who were punished are the commander of the base, who is a colonel, and the commander of the training base, who is a lieutenant colonel.
In the same context, the investigation results revealed a series of violations and failure to adhere to the required safety procedures and leadership instructions, according to Israeli media.
In addition, the Israeli media pointed out that over the past week, and following the serious results reached, the entire leadership hierarchy at the base was suspended from work up to the rank of lieutenant colonel, and then the Chief of Staff determined the relevant penalties.
Halevi had announced his resignation from his position, with his duties set to end on March 6, and this came after he acknowledged his responsibility for "the failure of the Israeli army on October 7."
