Iran after a "good, strong, sustainable deal": Foreign Minister
Iranian Foreign Minister points out the many benefits that can ensue from establishing economic diplomacy with the international community.
Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian reaffirmed on Friday Tehran’s willingness to strike a good and strong agreement in talks for lifting the sanctions and resurrecting the JCPOA negotiations.
During a meeting held in Tehran on Thursday with foreign officers serving at the diplomatic missions of Iran abroad, Amir-Abdollahian discussed the latest developments in the negotiations for the termination of sanctions and revival of the JCPOA deal.
He also pointed out the Foreign Ministry’s intention on furthering cooperation on economic diplomacy, naming it a primary focus of the country’s foreign policy agenda.
He likewise highlighted the potential and capabilities of the Iranian expatriate community in assuming key positions within consular, cultural, and social affairs.
The JCPOA was signed in 2015 in the presence of Iran with several other powerful nations, namely the P5+1 (the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council—China, France, Russia, United Kingdom, United States—plus Germany) and the EU nations.
The agreement is concerned with limiting Iran's nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions.
However, Washington's withdrawal from the agreement in May 2018 and the re-imposing of unilateral sanctions prompted Iran to renounce some of the pact's commitments.
Last month, a round of talks took place in the capital city of Qatar, Doha. However, the US attended the Doha talks with no initiatives.
Biden's last visit to the MENA region was expected to restore the JCPOA talks. However, the signing of the "Jerusalem Declaration" only led to disappointment.
