Iran blasts Germany over FM claims
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani acknowledges that Baerbock's remarks aim to disrupt Tehran-Baghdad ties.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani sharply condemned German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock's anti-Iran remarks made during a visit to the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
Furthermore, Kanaani acknowledged that Baerbock's remarks aimed to disrupt Tehran-Baghdad ties.
This comes after Baerbock claimed that Iran is jeopardizing "stability" in the Middle East.
"The Iranian regime shows with its missile attacks that it not only represses its own population with recklessness and brutality but is apparently prepared to jeopardize lives and stability in the entire region to maintain power," Baerbock stated at a meeting with her Iraqi counterpart, Fuad Hussein.
Kanaani stated that the German foreign minister must apologize for her government's previous "shameful actions" toward the two nations rather than attempting to conceal the history of Germany's atrocities by making "baseless" charges against Iran.
He further recalled that Germany backed former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein during its eight-year war with Iran, stressing that Berlin supplied the Ba'athist regime with chemical weapons to deploy against vulnerable Iranian and Iraqi soldiers and civilians.
“Unfortunately, a significant number of terrorists and armed separatist groups, who have Iranian and Iraqi civilians’ blood on their hands, have now taken refuge in Germany,” Kanaani said.
He further reiterated Iran's indisputable involvement in defending Iraq's territorial integrity and unity.
The Iranian top official also stated that Baerbock's anti-Iran words demonstrate that Berlin continues to back armed terrorists and separatists against Iran and makes futile efforts to sever relations between the two neighbors.
Elsewhere in his remarks, he emphasized that regional nations will never forget how certain Western countries, most notably Germany, launched wars and supported war-mongering tyrants throughout the area.
Iran has repeatedly warned local authorities in Iraqi Kurdistan that it will not accept the presence and operation of terrorist groups along its northern borders, threatening a strong response if such areas become a hub for terrorists.
It is worth noting that the ISIS attack on Shah Cheragh shrine in Shiraz, Iran, claimed the lives of 15, including men, women, and children.
