Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani said on Tuesday that contradictory messages from the United States continue to obstruct progress in indirect nuclear talks, as Iran works to advance diplomacy while preparing for “all possible scenarios.” In an interview with Al Mayadeen, she emphasized that the negotiations must focus solely on lifting sanctions and securing recognition of Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.

“The issue of negotiations with the United States is not new,” Mohajerani noted, “but one of the most pressing challenges we face is the inconsistency in statements coming from the US administration.” She explained that Iran’s main objective remains unchanged, “We want the negotiations to concentrate on lifting sanctions and recognizing our peaceful nuclear program. This is not a topic open to negotiation.”

Efforts to arrange the sixth round of indirect talks are ongoing, with Muscat expected to host the next meeting. Yet Mohajerani warned that without clarity from Washington, diplomacy will continue to stall. “The US must articulate a coherent stance on these issues,” she said. “This internal dissonance complicates our task, but we continue the negotiations with patience and professionalism.”

Reaffirming Iran’s sovereignty over its national defense and scientific development, Mohajerani declared, “The United States has no right to dictate what we are allowed to possess. We will pursue whatever is necessary to safeguard our national interests and will act in line with our own priorities.”

She stressed that Iran’s position on its core rights has been consistent since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, adding, “From the very beginning, we have defended our people’s rights and we will not hesitate to do so again.”

Parallel european talks, warning over 'Israel'

While engaging with the US, Iran has also opened a parallel track of dialogue with European countries. Mohajerani said Tehran expects “reasonable and non-hostile positions” from its European counterparts. “We do not seek hostility with any state, except the Zionist entity,” she said. “Our position on Israel is clear and has been reiterated many times.”

According to Mohajerani, the Israeli regime is actively working to sabotage the negotiations. “We warned the American side from the very beginning that the Zionist regime would attempt to obstruct the talks,” she said, adding that “Washington has come to realize that Israeli hostility casts a long shadow over the process.”

In one of the most striking portions of the interview, Mohajerani revealed that Iran has obtained secret nuclear and military documents linked to the Israeli regime. “We now possess confidential files on the Zionist regime,” she said, obtained through numerous sacrifices.

She claimed the documents expose a pattern of criminal actions in Gaza as well as violations in the nuclear and military spheres. “These facts will not remain hidden from the global public nor from the United States,” she warned. “They will soon realize the cost of aligning with a fragile entity; a house of cards.”

While not disclosing the documents immediately, Mohajerani confirmed that Iran plans to release part of the material through public and media channels. “When the world sees the scale of these revelations, combined with the massacres of women and children in Gaza, it will become clear that Israel is an enemy of humanity.”

IAEA oversight and missile program

Addressing concerns over transparency, Mohajerani pointed out that more than 20% of all IAEA inspections globally occur in Iran. “We are committed to transparency,” she said. “We have nothing to hide.”

At the same time, she drew a firm distinction between Iran’s nuclear program and its missile capabilities. “We have made it clear that we manufacture missiles, and we will continue to do so,” she said, calling the program “a national achievement.”

Mohajerani also reaffirmed that Iran has no intention of developing nuclear weapons. “The religious leadership in Iran, represented by His Eminence the Leader of the Revolution, has issued a fatwa forbidding this category of weapons,” she said. “Therefore, the Islamic Republic has no intention of manufacturing them.”

Economy prepared for sanctions or breakthrough

Turning to economic matters, Mohajerani stressed that Iran is prepared for both outcomes, a diplomatic breakthrough or continued external pressure. “We are a country rich in investment opportunities,” she said. “We welcome international investors, but like any sovereign nation, we have our terms.”

She emphasized that Iran has contingency plans in place for all scenarios. “We have developed programs to handle either the easing of sanctions or the continuation of pressure,” she explained. “Iran has been under sanctions for decades, and these restrictions don’t just impact the state; they directly affect citizens by limiting access to medicine, powdered milk, and other essential hospital supplies.”

She went on to express confidence in Iran’s resilience. “Iran is strong,” she said. “Our youth have proven capable of overcoming crises with determination and scientific innovation. While we welcome economic openness, we are fully prepared for difficult conditions.”

Regional strategy and a message from Gaza

Mohajerani also spoke about Iran’s regional vision, saying that the 14th government prioritizes stronger ties with neighboring countries. “We believe our region has everything needed to become a global economic hub, vast natural wealth and a rich cultural legacy,” she said. She noted that expanding partnerships with coastal and land-border neighbors is “a strategic choice in Iranian foreign policy.”

On the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, Mohajerani issued one of her most forceful remarks. “If the goal of the Israeli occupation is to kill, then it has succeeded,” she said. “But if the goal is to silence the voice of humanity, then it has failed miserably.”

She compared the ongoing war on Gaza to the historic events of Karbala. “Gaza today is the Karbala of this era,” she said. “Its resistance is the continuation of a timeless struggle. Martyrdom is not the end, it is a new beginning.”

In conclusion, Mohajerani said, “The occupation thinks it can erase the last Palestinian. But it forgets that in the culture of free peoples, martyrdom is rebirth. The more the wound deepens, the louder the voice of freedom becomes.”
