Iran’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the latest Israeli aggression on southern Lebanon, describing it as a grave violation of international law and a continuation of the occupation’s unchecked attacks across the region.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei denounced the strikes “in the strongest terms,” stressing that the Israeli regime’s actions constitute “a serious violation of international laws and norms.” He affirmed that Tehran stands in full solidarity “with Lebanon, its people, its resistance, and its government” as tensions escalate along the border.
Baghaei emphasized that the United States bears “direct responsibility” for the Israeli occupation’s ongoing aggression against Lebanon and other regional states due to what he described as Washington’s political and military backing of the occupation.
He criticized the silence of countries that guarantee the ceasefire agreement, arguing that their inaction toward repeated violations encourages the occupation to proceed “without accountability.”
Israeli attacks hit southern Lebanon
Israeli occupation forces issued evacuation warnings on Wednesday to residents in the southern Lebanese villages of Ainatha and Tayr Felsay, before carrying out a series of strikes targeting civilian homes, according to Al Mayadeen correspondents on the ground.
The evacuation threats were announced by Avichay Adraee, the occupation’s Arabic-language spokesperson, who demanded that families leave their houses ahead of potential attacks. Shortly afterward, Israeli reconnaissance drones were seen flying at low altitude over Tayr Felsay.
Al Mayadeen’s correspondent in southern Lebanon reported that a home in Ainatha, located in a densely populated residential area, was ordered to be cleared. Not long after, the occupation launched a violent airstrike on a house in Tayr Felsay that had also been threatened moments earlier.
7,300 violations since ceasefire
UN peacekeeping forces in South Lebanon have documented more than 7,300 violations of Lebanese airspace by “Israel” since the implementation of the ceasefire agreement in November 2024, in addition to thousands of military activities north of the Blue Line, according to a UNIFIL spokesperson.
Speaking to RIA Novosti on Wednesday, UNIFIL spokesperson Danny Goffrey said that the repeated Israeli incursions constitute a clear breach of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which governs the rules of engagement and operations in southern Lebanon following the 2006 war.
Goffrey noted that since November 27, 2024, peacekeepers have also recorded over 2,400 operational activities by Israeli forces north of the Blue Line, a boundary demarcated by the United Nations and not officially recognized by Lebanon as an international border.
No negotiations with Washington
On the issue of diplomacy with the US, Baghaei reiterated that no negotiations are currently taking place between Tehran and Washington, citing what he called “a long record of violating commitments and excessive demands” by the US.
He noted that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has repeatedly stated that talks are futile with a party that rejects equal negotiations, “boasts openly of its aggressive acts against Iran,” and seeks to impose its dictates.
Responding to questions about the message recently delivered by Iran’s president to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Baghaei clarified that it was strictly bilateral in nature.
He explained that the message expressed Iran’s appreciation for Saudi efforts in supporting Iranian pilgrims during the previous Hajj season and underscored the importance of continued cooperation and coordination to ensure the success of this year’s pilgrimage.
