Iran has strongly condemned the Israeli occupation's attack on residential areas in Beirut’s Southern Suburb, describing the strikes on the eve of Eid al-Adha as a flagrant violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In a statement issued Friday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei labeled the assault a clear act of aggression and warned that such actions threaten regional stability and peace.
Baghaei blamed the United States and France, whom he described as the guarantors of the ceasefire in Lebanon, asserting that the "Zionist entity" would not be able to act with such impunity without the "green light and overt and covert support" of Washington.
Iran urges UN to act against Israeli violations
Baghaei called on the UN Security Council to take concrete measures in response to repeated Israeli violations, stressing its duty under the UN Charter to maintain peace and security.
He stressed the Security Council's responsibility to confront the occupation's violations of peace and its attacks, emphasizing that unchecked aggression would only embolden further instability.
The airstrike that hit residential buildings in Beirut’s Southern Suburb on Thursday evening has been described as the largest Israeli attack on Lebanon since the ceasefire agreement. It sparked widespread outrage and reignited calls for accountability from both local and international actors.
The Israeli occupation carried out eight airstrikes targeting residential buildings in Beirut’s Southern Suburb.
The Israeli occupation issued direct threats Thursday night against multiple residential buildings in the southern suburb of Beirut, warning of imminent strikes on areas including Hadath, Haret Hreik, and Burj al-Barajneh.
According to an Al Mayadeen correspondent, the Israeli occupation forces warned of targeting eight buildings across these densely populated neighborhoods. Meanwhile, the Israeli occupation army also targeted residential buildings in the town of Ain Qana, southern Lebanon.
Baghaei stated that the ongoing aggression by the Zionist entity in the region, particularly its attacks on Lebanon and other countries, underscores a clear truth: the only way to safeguard national independence and sovereignty is by strengthening defensive capabilities and maintaining resistance against such actions.
The escalation comes amid already heightened tensions across the region, casting further doubt on the durability of the ceasefire and prompting renewed scrutiny of the role played by international mediators.
Earlier this month, two Lebanese citizens were killed and a third was injured in three separate Israeli attacks on Southern Lebanon. One person was killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting his motorcycle in the town of Arnoun, southern Lebanon’s Nabatieh district, the Lebanese Health Ministry reported on June 1.
The Ministry also announced that one person was injured in an Israeli airstrike targeting a car in Beit Lif, Bint Jbeil district, in the south.
Later in the same day, in yet another flagrant violation, an Israeli airstrike targeted a car on the Debel road in the Bint Jbeil district, resulting in the martyrdom of a Lebanese citizen, according to the Ministry of Public Health.
