Asghar Jahangir, Spokesman for Iran’s Judiciary, confirmed that 71 individuals were killed in the Israeli attack on Evin Prison in Tehran.
Jahangir described the assault as a "full-fledged crime", noting the severe impact on both the prison and the surrounding civilian areas.
He emphasized that residents living near the prison’s visitation and judicial buildings suffered significant material and physical damage.
Extensive financial, physical damage
“The Zionist attack inflicted extensive financial and physical damage on residents near the visitation hall and judicial building. Tragically, among those neighbors, we also have martyrs,” he indicated.
Jahangir explained that at the time of the attack, numerous families were present at Evin Prison for visitation or to attend legal matters concerning relatives.
"Some of our fellow compatriots present there were either injured or martyred," he added.
He noted that the toll included prison administrative staff, conscripted soldiers, inmates, family members of inmates, and local residents.
In addition to those killed, several individuals were wounded. Jahangir stated that some received treatment on-site, while others were transported to hospitals. A number of them have since been discharged following further treatment.
The bombing of Evin Prison came as part of "Israel's" 12-day war on Iran, where it first launched an aggression on June 13, hitting nuclear and military sites, as well as residential areas, prompting waves of Iranian retaliatory missile attacks on Israeli targets in the occupied Palestinian territories.
12-day war ended with ceasefire
The war that "Israel" launched on June 13 also saw US aggression on Iranian nuclear facilities using massive bunker-busting bombs, followed by an Iranian retaliatory missile attack targeting a US military base in Qatar.
US President Donald Trump said last week that Iran and "Israel" had agreed to a ceasefire that would bring about an "official end" to the war.
The Iranian Supreme National Security Council announced that the Islamic Republic had achieved a significant strategic victory, asserting that it had “forced the enemies to seek a ceasefire.”
