Iran has agreed to hold a new round of discussions with representatives of the European troika, Britain, France, and Germany, following a formal request from the European side, according to Al Mayadeen’s correspondent in Tehran.
The Iran-E3 talks are set to take place early next week and will be held at the level of deputy foreign ministers. The Iranian delegation will be led by Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Majid Takht-Ravanchi.
According to Al Mayadeen’s correspondent, the upcoming discussions will center on the European role in the nuclear agreement and the issue of the so-called “trigger mechanism,” a dispute-resolution procedure outlined in the 2015 nuclear deal.
The talks with the European troika are taking place independently of the indirect talks previously held between Iran and the United States. While the European states remain part of the nuclear agreement, Tehran continues to demand that they uphold and implement their obligations under the deal.
This comes after a source informed Tasnim News that Iran and the E3 have agreed in principle to resume nuclear negotiations. The hosting country for the next round of talks has not yet been determined, the source noted.
The upcoming talks are also expected to address key concerns, including Iran’s nuclear commitments and the easing of sanctions.
Iran nuclear negotiations have remained in limbo in recent months, but this renewed engagement signals a possible step forward in diplomatic efforts between Tehran and Brussels.
