Iran FM meets with counterparts, stresses need to end Israeli assaults
The Iranian and Egyptian foreign ministers highlight the urgent need to stop the Israeli genocidal actions against Palestinians and to expedite the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
The Iranian and Egyptian foreign ministers discussed coordinated efforts by key regional powers to halt the Israeli aggression and prevent further escalation of tensions, Iranian media reported.
During a meeting held on the sidelines of the D-8 ministerial gathering in Cairo on Wednesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, addressed various bilateral and regional issues.
Araghchi expressed appreciation for Egypt’s hospitality and its successful hosting of the Developing Eight Islamic Countries (D-8) meeting, expressing hope that the summit would yield outcomes beneficial to developing Islamic nations and the broader Muslim world.
The two top diplomats emphasized the pivotal roles of Iran and Egypt within the region and the Islamic world, calling for strengthened cooperation among D-8 member states, particularly in economic sectors.
The Iranian Foreign Minister also expressed optimism about Egypt's effective leadership in revitalizing the D-8 organization and reiterated Tehran's readiness to support Cairo in these efforts.
The discussion extended to regional developments, particularly "Israel's" expanding aggression from Gaza and Lebanon to Syria.
Araghchi and Abdelatty underscored the importance of regional collaboration, particularly between Iran and Egypt, to end Israeli assaults and prevent further conflict.
They also highlighted the urgent need to stop the Israeli genocidal actions against Palestinians and to expedite the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
In a separate meeting, Araghchi discussed with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan bilateral ties and issues of mutual interests.
The two sides discussed the latest regional developments, the situation in Gaza, and the ongoing Israeli aggression in the region, particularly the attacks on Syrian territory, emphasizing the need to halt these assaults and safeguard the security and stability of the region.
It is noteworthy that Araghchi is accompanying Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian who arrived in Cairo on Wednesday evening to attend the D-8 summit.
The 11th D-8 summit is scheduled to take place Thursday, in Cairo, focusing on economic and political developments within the Islamic world.
A special meeting at the level of heads of state is set to be held on the sidelines of the summit on Thursday afternoon to review the situation in Palestine and Lebanon.
The D-8 group was established in 1997 by Iran, Turkey, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Egypt, and Nigeria, with its secretariat headquartered in Istanbul.
