Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Wednesday slammed French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo over caricatures intended to offend religious and political Iranian authorities.

The cartoon which was widely circulated intentionally demonizes Iran in light of the Mahsa Amini riots that have been manipulated to fit the West's agenda and its aspirations to fulfill regime change in Iran.

"The insulting and disgraceful act of a French magazine in publishing cartoons against religious and political authorities will receive a decisive and effective response," Amir-Abdollahian said in a post on his Twitter account on Wednesday.

He further warned French authorities to "cut their coats according to the cloth available," meaning that he is calling them to make plans and decisions based on what they have and not what they would like.

On December 26, 2022, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani said the West failed to force a change of governance in Iran.

He said Western nations admitted to falling short of their goal to shroud the country with unrest, noting that Tehran will never forget their roles in fomenting turmoil.

"The governments that bet on Iran’s internal developments bet on a losing horse. We warned them not to sacrifice their interests to no avail," he told reporters.

Regarding the foreign nationals who were detained over their roles in fueling the riots, Kanaani said Tehran has already notified their countries and allowed the detained to contact their families on Christmas as a humanitarian gesture of goodwill.
