Iran ready to reopen Embassy in Saudi Arabia: Khatibzadeh
Iran's FM Spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh reiterates his country's readiness to reopen its embassy in Saudi Arabia.
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh reiterated Tehran's readiness to reopen its Embassy in Saudi Arabia.
On Monday, Khatibzadeh indicated in his weekly press conference on Iran-Saudi Arabia relations that Tehran announced this preparation previously and "will take all necessary measures to direct this path toward implementation."
"The focus now is on the activities of the Iranian mission to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Jeddah, where our diplomats obtained the necessary visas to study the possibility of opening the embassy," he said.
Regarding the arrival of three Iranian diplomats to Jeddah to work with the Iranian mission to the OIC, he commented, "We've put forth the necessary points in a written form to the Saudi delegation in the fourth round of talks in Baghdad, and perhaps we can provide some responses after the completion of the next round of talks."
He continued, "The delegation in Saudi Arabia could perhaps pave the way for the two parties to send delegations to inspect the two embassies."
He also referred to the good-neighborly policy on the government's agenda and said, regarding security and regional arrangements in the Gulf, that "consultations and measures took place in the context of finding comprehensive arrangements in this region, starting with the eight countries in the Gulf as a first step which could be expanded to include the Levant countries as well."
Khatibzadeh had confirmed last week that negotiations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, hosted by Iraq, will be completed, pointing out that the next round was on the agenda.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported that "Iran and Saudi Arabia have made progress in their efforts to repair relations between them."
Saudi Arabia severed diplomatic relations with Iran in 2016.
