Iran rules out assassination of IRGC Commander
Iran opens an investigation into the death of a Revolutionary Guards member and refutes rumors that he was assassinated.
Iran stated Friday that it has opened an investigation into the death of an IRGC member and refuted rumors of his assassination.
Citing an informed source, IRNA reported that "a member of the Revolutionary Guards died in recent days in an accident in his home."
IRNA denied allegations made by foreign-based media that Colonel Ali Esmailzadeh, commander of the Guards' external operations arm, had been assassinated recently in Karaj, west of Tehran.
The investigation result comes just a few days after the IRGC and the President of Iran Ebrahim Raisi vowed revenge for the death of Colonel Sayyad Khodaei on May 22.
Earlier, the IRGC's public relations department announced the arrest of a spying network linked with Israeli intelligence.
In a statement, the IRGC indicated that "the network, led by the Zionist regime's intelligence service, attempted to steal and destroy personal and public properties, and abduct people and get fabricated confessions."
The statement mentioned that the elements of the network were arrested in a joint operation by the IRGC and the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence.
